Shelf-life studies
A shelf-life claim needs evidence. I design shelf-life studies around how your product will actually be stored, shipped and sold, coordinate the testing with an accredited lab, and turn the results into a recommendation you can act on.
The work
How a study runs
The lab does the testing, at your cost. I don't promise a shelf life before the results are in.
Define the question
Your target shelf life, how the product is stored and distributed, and what is most likely to fail first.
Design the study
Storage conditions that match real life, time points, and the microbiological, sensory and physical tests that answer the question.
Coordinate the testing
I work with an accredited lab, or your facility, to run the tests on schedule.
Interpret the results
A shelf-life recommendation, and if the product falls short, what to change in the formula, process or packaging.
FAQ
Questions about this work
Can you run shelf-life studies?
I design the study, coordinate it with an accredited lab and turn the results into a shelf-life recommendation. The lab does the testing, at your cost.
Do you have your own lab?
No. I do bench and kitchen-level development myself. Pilot runs, analytical testing and shelf-life testing happen at your facility, a co-packer, a rented pilot plant or an accredited lab, at your cost. I'll tell you upfront which parts of your project need which.
How long does product development take?
Most packaged foods take 3 to 6 months from concept to a product that's ready for a production trial. Shelf-life testing adds time. Your proposal includes a timeline built around your product and milestones.
